6x6 Project Blog
Finally, details.
2023-07-11Today was a very successful day. After many days being stuck on the button design, I finally bite the bullet and followed traditional button design techniques. I was avoiding it as I was hoping to save 1mm of space all around the button. Although after several days fixated on it, I just had to make a move… There are only 13 days left to hit my objective.
Supported button. Dont want a user breaking it off.
The button has a lip all around the edge to retain it in place. It is hallowed out and has a post that mates with a perpendicular button. The button on the circuit board can sit on a ledge just above the battery. This will support it from user who smash the button down. This is very important in this product because of the design, use and application.
I also made a quick logo. I went with “nEo” but I do not like how it looks. Also don’t love the brand name but I already have the website. No need to fixate on it now. Something is better than nothing.
Everything falling into place.
After working on the button, I finally was able to go in and start adding significant details. Started flushing out the air path, the wire paths and finally got to put more thought to the heating element and how it will be mounted into the chassis.
Many ideas I have had I finally got to put in or lay the ground work for. The light bar on the front for example will be several circuit board mounted LEDs and then will create a clear lightbar to bring it to the outer shell. This light bar will also act as a way to better mount and stabilize the USB connector.
Too much empty airspace for this small blower.
In the airpath, I’ll need an additional plastic part. This will keep the pressure where it should be and make the path smaller. It will also be used to seal off the fan wires to the circuit board and mount the fan to the chassis. Killing several problems with one piece.
I am excited to get in all the details now that the button is in a happy place. Finally feel like I can move forward. After a busy week where I couldn’t work on this and then another week of feeling stuck, I finally feel like I am back on track. I was getting worried I wouldn’t finish in time.
